Google’s product carousels vanish from search results across the European Economic Area as the company complies with the DMA

Product carousels have fallen 90% to 100% across Google search in the European Economic Area within days, while the same queries in the UK, US, and Australia return them untouched, according to Productrise, a Dutch analytics firm that tracks the units daily across thousands of queries. Google announced the removal last week as Digital Markets Act compliance, calling it the steepest drop in search quality across its 29 years. Shoppers now get a list of retailers and price comparison sites where the product blocks used to sit, with Shopping gone from the tab navigation, which leaves Shopping ads as the only product surface left. Merchant Center feeds and product SEO lose most of their value in the region as a result, according to Kristian Kunz at SEO Suedwest.
