Google puts links higher in AI Mode and AI Overviews, but Search Console still won’t show site owners the clicks they send

by | Oct 17, 2026 | Latest E-commerce News & Updates

Google is changing AI Mode and AI Overviews so that links embedded in answers show up more often and closer to the top. It’s also testing a block above some answers that features a task’s official site, or sometimes two, adding thumbnail images to the related links at the end of responses, and expanding news carousels to more countries and languages. However, site owners still can’t tell how much traffic any of this sends them, because the Search Console reports Google launched in June for its AI features count impressions but not clicks. Google has said it plans to add more metrics later, without committing to clicks or a date.
