AI agents could open a checkout on every Shopify store tested, but none of 122 stores met all nine criteria for an agent to finish a buying decision, according to Bill Hunt at Search Engine Journal. When Hunt asked each store’s policy tool questions a shopper would ask, it found the return window for 70 of 88 stores, but it never gave the cost of shipping to Boston or when an order would arrive, and only two said whether orders can be canceled. The answers exist on the stores’ policy pages, but the tool misses them unless a question is phrased like a page title, such as “What is your shipping policy?” No store lets an agent cancel or change an order, or start a return, once it’s placed, because the Universal Commerce Protocol behind Shopify’s tools has no way to do any of those things yet.
