Bank of America brought in 1,000 outside contractors in the second quarter to patch flaws in its own and vendors’ software that AI models like Anthropic’s Mythos can uncover, CEO Brian Moynihan told CNBC’s Leslie Picker. Anthropic has only given Mythos to a limited set of banks, tech firms and government agencies since April. The contractors still work alongside roughly 3,000 Bank of America staff on the effort, and Moynihan told analysts that patching plus the bank’s anti-money laundering fixes cost a “couple hundred million plus” last quarter, a bill he expects to shrink as fewer flaws remain. AI is also cutting costs at the bank, where Moynihan said savings from its roughly 130 in-house AI projects should climb from $300 million this year to $700 million in 2027.
