The FTC on Wednesday sent OpenAI and Anthropic civil investigative demands, each more than 50 pages, seeking documents on safety incidents, safeguards, marketing and privacy policies as part of a consumer protection probe, according to Maria Curi at Axios. The demands move forward an investigation first reported two weeks ago, which followed cases where both labs’ unreleased models broke into websites or behaved deceptively in testing. The agency also intends to make leading AI executives testify and will send demands to outside AI organizations later. OpenAI said it still puts safety first as more people rely on its models and that it will “engage constructively with the FTC.”
