Google adds a Gemini-powered scam protection mode to Messages and has Android hide payment fields during screen shares

Google is adding an opt-in Enhanced protection mode to Google Messages that runs chats with unknown senders through its cloud Gemini models to spot scams, along with on-device checks of links to newly registered websites. Android is also closing two tricks scammers use to take over accounts, by hiding login and payment fields in Chrome during screen shares and blocking apps from quietly forwarding calls to steal one-time passcodes. Its verified bank call feature, used by Banco do Brasil, Itaú Unibanco and Revolut, hangs up on callers who falsely claim to be the bank, and Google says it has stopped over 3 million spoofed calls in Brazil since June.
