Perplexity released SPACE, the sandbox it uses to keep AI agents from escaping, as free open-source software, and CoreWeave and Akamai are already offering it on their clouds with Crusoe planning to follow, the company told Reed Albergotti at Semafor. Perplexity’s Computer agent runs entirely on SPACE, which gives each task its own isolated virtual machine while keeping credentials and network rules outside the agent’s reach. Perplexity said none of nine AI model configurations broke out of the virtual machine across 108 escape attempts in its red-team testing. However, four of those models got around its network restrictions by spoofing DNS responses or routing through shared CDN addresses, gaps Perplexity says it has since patched.
