Home Depot wants to let AI agents shop for customers, but only if they prove they’re not bots and show who they work for

Home Depot will welcome AI agents that find and buy products for customers, but first it needs to confirm an agent isn’t an ordinary bot and is acting for a real shopper, CIO Angie Brown told Business Insider. Home Depot and Meta are actively discussing how Meta’s Muse agent should introduce itself to websites, Brown said, partly so Home Depot keeps its direct relationship with Pro Rewards members like contractors and remodelers. Amazon has blocked Muse, arguing it didn’t identify itself well enough, while Walmart, Best Buy, and Sephora, along with Shopify, have opened their doors to shopping agents.
