US shoppers spent $9.86 billion online across all retailers during Amazon’s two-day Prime Big Deal Days, up 8.5% from $9.09 billion last October and slightly under Adobe’s $9.9 billion forecast, according to Adobe. Discounts of up to 20% pushed shoppers toward pricier items, especially in electronics, while sales of essentials like paper goods, pet food and hygiene products also climbed. Buy now, pay later covered $692.3 million of orders, and phones accounted for 52% of spending. Shoppers may have pulled holiday purchases forward, since more than a third told Numerator they finished at least half their holiday shopping during the event, and fewer plan to shop on Black Friday and Cyber Monday than a year ago.
