Elon Musk’s xAI acquired dot.com in late July, two months before OpenAI launched its Dots agents at DevDay on September 29, and the address now sends visitors to the page for Grok Bot, the company’s competing always-on agent xAI released in August. When an anonymous X account spotted the redirect the day Dots launched, dot.com originally pointed to Grok’s app download page, but then xAI switched it to the agent page sometime after, which has the internet convinced Musk is trolling OpenAI. Neither company has commented, and xAI hasn’t said what it paid for the address or why it wanted it. The closer match to OpenAI’s product name, dots.com, was the web address of a discount women’s clothing chain that went bankrupt in 2014.
