TikTok launched a restaurant guide called Must Eat on Wednesday, adding dining to TikTok GO, the in-app feature where US users already find and book hotels, attractions, and tours. Must Eat ranks restaurants in the New York City, Los Angeles, and Bay Area metros using more than 40 million TikTok posts, reviews, and comments, and it sorts each city into two tiers called Everyday Eats and Elevated Dining. Users can filter by cuisine, price, and location, save spots to their TikTok collections, and book some of them through OpenTable without leaving the app. TikTok gives independent restaurants priority and says none can pay to be listed, pointing to its own estimate that the app sent 27 million Americans to an independent shop, cafe, or restaurant they’d never visited before last year.
