Symbotic is acquiring cellumation, a Bremen, Germany-based company that makes the celluveyor, a sorting system built from hundreds of individually controlled hexagonal cells whose omnidirectional wheels can push an item any way it needs to go. Like its recent purchases of ARMS Innovations and Fox Robotics, Symbotic will sell the celluveyor as a standalone product, directly and through other integrators, while also building it into its own warehouse systems as a replacement for conventional conveyor sortation that takes up more floor space. cellumation will keep its name, its staff of more than 70, and its founding leadership, giving Symbotic a team in Europe.
