TikTok CEO Shou Chew said AI “is not there yet” at a DBS Bank conference in Singapore on Monday, arguing that people still handle the subtleties of visual recognition and recalling long-term memories better than models do. Chew warned that AI’s cybersecurity risks are “quite real” for now as companies rush to adopt the technology. Across town at a Microsoft event, Judson Althoff, head of Microsoft’s commercial business, argued that AI hype needs to be separated from reality and that the technology won’t replace human purpose. Althoff also told the industry it needs visibility into AI at every level of an organization and its tech stack, echoing what Anthropic and OpenAI leaders have said in recent weeks.
