Stripe president Will Gaybrick said checkout pages “will just go away” once AI agents do the buying, arguing on the A16z Show that a shopper should be able to finish a purchase from the product page itself. “We think machines will want to buy from other machines,” Gaybrick said, and what remains unsettled is how checkout should work for an agent rather than a person. He allowed that agentic commerce hasn’t had a breakout moment yet, naming Link and Shop Pay as the nearest things to it today. A June survey across three countries run by PayPal and Austin e-commerce firm Commerce found shoppers want what agentic buying promises on cost and time, but won’t let an agent complete a purchase without approving it first.
