USPS proposes holiday package surcharges that would stack on top of the 8% transportation increase it imposed in April

USPS asked the Postal Regulatory Commission to sign off on temporary holiday surcharges covering Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select from October 4 through January 17, according to Liz Morton at Value Added Resource. Commercial packages under 3 lbs in Zones 1 through 4 would cost $0.40 more, up from $0.30 during last year’s peak, while the 4 to 10 lb tier goes from $0.45 to $0.65 and anything heavier in that range runs about 40% above the 2025 add-ons. Priority Mail sent to Zones 5 through 9 takes the biggest hit, at $9.10 more for anything from 26 to 70 lbs. The whole thing would sit on top of the 8% transportation surcharge USPS imposed in April, which is scheduled to expire the same day the holiday one does.
