Amazon’s Prime settlement refund checks credit “President Trump’s Federal Trade Commission,” a first for an FTC refund

Amazon’s refund checks from its $2.5 billion Prime settlement credit “President Trump’s Federal Trade Commission,” making them the first FTC refunds ever to name a president, according to Politico. The phrase appears three times in the notice Amazon sends with each check, which former FTC general counsel Stephen Calkins called “unseemly and unfortunate,” and former FTC chairman Bill Kovacic said could hurt the agency’s professional reputation in later cases. More checks are being mailed after a judge widened eligibility, adding to at least 24.9 million sent through September.  The FTC said the settlement belongs to Trump’s FTC because he heads the executive branch, but the Biden administration brought the original lawsuit in 2023. WTF? The FTC belongs to the American people, not one single President.
