Amazon renames Kindle Unlimited as Kindle+ and adds AI-narrated audiobooks of self-published titles to the $12 subscription

Amazon renamed Kindle Unlimited as Kindle+ and added audiobooks to the $12-a-month subscription in the US, including AI-narrated versions of self-published books. Any ebook enrolled in KDP Select now automatically gets an audiobook in both Kindle+ and Audible Plus, either the author’s human-narrated ACX recording or, if none exists, one Amazon generates with its free Virtual Voice tool. Authors already enrolled in KDP Select are included without taking any action, so titles without a human recording can get AI narration without the author ever requesting it.
