Shopify overhauls Collections so merchants can mix automated rules with hand-picked products, target variants, and use Sidekick

by | Jul 17, 2026 | Latest E-commerce News & Updates

Shopify rebuilt its Collections merchandising tool, now rolling out to all stores, so a single collection can blend automated conditions, hand-picked products, and other collections, ending the old either-or choice between automating a collection and curating it by hand. Collections can also be scoped to specific variants of a product rather than whole products, with that granularity flowing into the online store, POS, and Shop app, and they can drive discounts, tax overrides, and internal workflows beyond storefront display. Merchants can also build or edit collections through Shopify’s Sidekick AI using plain-language requests and pull live product sources from apps that track bestsellers or trends, kept synced across collections and workflows.
