Google Wallet is building Traveler QR, a feature that would let travelers pay by QR code at merchants on Alipay+ networks abroad

Google Wallet is building a feature called Traveler QR that would let users pay merchants abroad by scanning QR codes on Alipay+ networks, according to Stephen Schenck at Android Authority, which found an “Overseas QR payments” setting in the app’s code. Alipay+ is the overseas version of Ant Group’s Alipay, which runs QR payment networks across Southeast Asia. A Google support page that isn’t linked anywhere yet says the option turns on automatically when a phone detects it’s in a supported country, but Singapore is the only one it names so far. Google hasn’t announced Traveler QR, and features found in app code don’t always launch.
