Amazon set up supplier financing that lets it borrow up to $80 billion against the hardware it buys, it disclosed in its latest quarterly filing. Amazon can draw on the secured facility whenever it chooses from early 2027 through the third quarter of 2028, and lenders can claim some of the purchased equipment as collateral, but the filing doesn’t say which. Until now Amazon has mostly paid for its AI buildout with cash from AWS and retail plus record bond sales, avoiding the joint data center financing and chip-leasing deals some rivals have used. Its capital spending left it $42.4 billion short on free cash flow over the year ended September 30, and its total spending commitments rose 36% in one quarter to $883 billion.
