Shopify opened checkout on its merchants’ stores, including Shop Pay, to any AI agent running in a shopper’s browser, a week after it struck a deal letting Meta’s Muse check out with Shop Pay on every Shopify store. Browser agents using WebMCP could already search a store and fill a cart, and three new tools, get_checkout, update_checkout, and complete_checkout, now let them read the checkout, change the shipping address or pick a different delivery option, and place the order once the buyer approves. So an agent without a partnership like Muse’s can now finish purchases on eligible Shopify stores as the feature rolls out.
