Dropbox agreed to buy Tigris Data, a startup run by former Uber storage engineers that sells cloud storage for AI workloads, for about $350 million in cash. Tigris will power DBX Agent Cloud, a new Dropbox service for companies building AI apps and agents, which starts with object storage that works with software written for Amazon S3 but has no launch date or pricing yet. Tigris doesn’t charge egress fees, the per-gigabyte cost of pulling data off a provider’s servers, so developers can shift data between clouds without paying extra. Dropbox expects the deal to close in Q4 and told TechCrunch it has no plans to cut jobs because of it, a month after laying off about 9% of its staff.
