Shopify lets merchants pay AI shopping agents extra commission through Shop Campaigns on top of its 0.3% Promoted Placements rate

by | Nov 3, 2026 | Latest E-commerce News & Updates

Shopify now lets merchants use its Shop Campaigns ad program to add their own commission to the 0.3% it pays AI shopping agent developers through Promoted Placements. Promoted Placements, which is still an invite-only developer preview with a waitlist, lets developers show sponsored products in their agents’ Shopify Catalog searches and earn a cut of purchases they drive, credited to the last non-direct click within seven days. A merchant running a Shop Campaign that’s enabled for outside platforms pays the extra, and the combined rate comes back with each product in search results, such as 1.5% in Shopify’s example. However, the higher rate only applies in the US and only when the buyer checks out in the Shop app or on shop.com, so other purchases earn the 0.3% base.
