Conservative MPs want Ottawa to make public the deal terms behind its planned investment of up to C$1.6 billion in Cohere, such as the size of the government’s stake and how much influence it buys, according to The Logic. Simcoe North MP Adam Chambers asked why the government needed to be on Cohere’s cap table when the company is already drawing billions from private investors and Canada has large pension plans. Conservative AI critic Leslyn Lewis asked what would happen if Cohere were sold or broke its promises to stay headquartered in Canada, add 1,000 technical jobs, and spend at least C$1.7 billion on Canadian computing by 2030. The Crown corporation that negotiated the deal declined to share terms and said the final arrangements are still being worked out.
