OpenAI rolls out locked chats in ChatGPT, letting users hide conversations behind a PIN, but resetting it deletes them for good

by | Oct 22, 2026 | Latest E-commerce News & Updates

OpenAI is rolling out locked chats in ChatGPT, which hide chosen conversations from the user’s history, pinned chats, and search until they’re opened with a four-digit PIN or, on supported phones, Face ID or Touch ID. The feature is coming to nearly every plan, from Free to Enterprise, and it’s meant to keep sensitive chats off screen during screen sharing or on a shared device. Locking doesn’t encrypt anything or change how long OpenAI keeps the conversation, and Enterprise and Edu chats still show up in compliance logs. Users who forget their PIN and reset it lose every locked chat permanently, and OpenAI Support can’t get them back.
