Commerce and Cloudflare turn on WebMCP for BigCommerce stores, letting shoppers’ browser AI agents search catalogs and build carts

by | Oct 22, 2026 | Latest E-commerce News & Updates

Commerce partnered with Cloudflare to add WebMCP support to BigCommerce stores, so AI agents running in a shopper’s browser can search a store’s catalog, compare items, and build a cart, and the feature is live by default for eligible merchants. WebMCP is a draft web standard that lets a site tell a browser agent what it sells and which actions it supports, rather than leaving the agent to guess at buttons and forms. The agent doesn’t complete the purchase but instead hands the shopper a link to check out on the store’s own site, with prices and stock pulled live from the merchant’s catalog. No code is required, and merchants can switch the feature off from a new settings page that also manages the platform’s other AI integrations.
