Joel Kaplan said on X that he’s stepping down as Meta’s chief global affairs officer after 15 years at the company, and that he’ll stay on for several months to hand off the role before deciding what to do next. Kaplan arrived at Meta in 2011, spent years as its main contact with Republicans in Washington, and became its policy chief in January 2025, weeks after Donald Trump’s election win. His exit follows the arrival of Dina Powell McCormick, a former official in Trump’s first administration, who left Meta’s board to become president and vice chairman at the start of this year and reports to Mark Zuckerberg. Powell McCormick has quickly become a public face for Meta, appearing at events to talk about its data center expansion and the lawsuits over its social apps.
