OpenAI hired Dan Driscoll, the former secretary of the Army, to lead its national security modernization efforts and advise on how AI can strengthen US cyber defenses and military capabilities. Driscoll will also work with OpenAI executives and outside partners to get US allies to adopt advanced AI systems. He left the Pentagon in September after months of friction with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth about where the Army was headed and the removal of senior officers. During his 18 months running the Army, Driscoll pressed troops to take up new battlefield technology and arranged multibillion-dollar partnerships with private companies to upgrade bases and logistics.
