OpenAI board chairman Bret Taylor expects corporate anxiety over AI token costs to disappear within roughly a year as other companies take over the job of managing them, he told CNBC. Taylor, who also founded the AI startup Sierra, blamed current tokenomics headaches on an immature market and compared the moment to the early internet, when standing up a website cost far more than it does now. Vendors are already stepping in, with Ramp shipping a token spend tool and sector-specific firms like legal AI startup Harvey handling token management for clients. Taylor also cast doubt on whether Moonshot’s Kimi K3 actually delivers the cost savings Silicon Valley has been crediting it with, calling that question unsettled. His prediction, in his words, is that the world is heading toward paying for outcomes.
