Google expanded direct checkout in AI Mode and the Gemini app to shoppers in Canada, letting them buy from lululemon, Shoppers Drug Mart, Simons, and select Shopify merchants without leaving the conversation. Google has offered the same checkout in the US since February, when Etsy and Wayfair went live first, and automatically enrolled eligible US Shopify merchants in September. Shoppers pay with Google Pay using the cards and shipping addresses saved in Google Wallet, but the retailer remains the seller of record. Google plans to open the checkout to more Canadian retailers next year through a simpler setup in Merchant Center.
