Canva is laying off, relocating, or changing the roles of 1,271 employees, about 22% of its workforce, after CEO Melanie Perkins told staff that growth had “slowed for the first time in a decade,” according to Bloomberg. Canva lowered its 2026 revenue growth target from 30% to 20% in August because of rising AI costs, and its early investors have since marked its valuation down to about $35 billion. The restructuring merges the product, growth and platform teams, asks remaining employees to cover broader roles, and requires hybrid staff to come into an office two to three days a week starting in January 2027. Departing employees get at least six months’ pay and a year of healthcare in countries where Canva already covers it, and those hired in the past year skip the one-year vesting cliff.
