Britain’s Competition Appeal Tribunal let a revived consumer class action against Apple and Amazon partly go forward, limited to Apple and Beats products purchased on Amazon’s UK marketplace. The suit alleges a 2018 deal between Apple and Amazon restricted which resellers could list those products on Amazon.co.uk, cutting competition and pushing up prices. Judge Kelyn Bacon found the marketplace claims credible but rejected claims over purchases from Apple and other retailers as too speculative. Class representative Justin Le Patourel, who refiled the case after the tribunal blocked an earlier version over its funding, values the surviving claim at £289M to £306M with interest. Apple said the deal was meant to fight counterfeits on Amazon, while Amazon called the remaining claim meritless.
