Anthropic, which is aiming to list at around $2 trillion, drew only three raised hands when Business Insider asked a San Francisco Tech Week audience whether they’d buy its stock at a $3 trillion valuation, and only a few more at $1.5 trillion, according to Melia Robinson at Business Insider. At the same event, Simpson Thacher partner Heidi Mayon, who worked on the smart-ring maker Oura’s IPO before it was pulled last week, said many companies are waiting for Anthropic and OpenAI to go public first because they’d rather not fight the AI labs for investors’ money. Jack Cassel, Nasdaq’s head of new listings, said there’s still capital for IPOs, but investors now expect growth paired with cash discipline, which could leave consumer and software companies waiting until then.
