YouTube, Meta, Twitch, and X didn’t answer The Verge’s questions about whether they’d host a US government livestream of the firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan, convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood mass shooting, which a Pentagon official speaking anonymously said will be streamed on December 3. All four platforms’ rules already ban violent content showing death, and YouTube separately bars livestreams of anyone handling a firearm, so it’s unclear whether any of them would carve out an exception for the government. TikTok and Kick, which is known for light moderation, both told The Verge that streaming the execution would break their rules.
