Amazon’s AWS is losing Dave Brown, a senior vice president of nearly 19 years, who will depart at the end of the month for a role outside the company. Brown joined AWS in its infancy, helped assemble its core EC2 rental-computing service in South Africa in the 2000s, and later oversaw its compute and machine-learning services, including Bedrock and SageMaker. Dave Treadwell, a top executive from Amazon’s e-commerce division, will take over the group, with Brown calling it the right time to start a new chapter. Brown, a member of CEO Andy Jassy’s influential S-team, is leaving as AWS rides strong AI demand, posting 28% revenue growth in the first quarter alongside cloud rivals Microsoft and Google.
