Amazon cut almost 1,000 jobs on Tuesday across retail engineering, customer service, and marketplace support, including roles in India and the UK, according to Business Insider. Amazon confirmed it had eliminated what it called “a small number” of positions, mostly in its Stores business, which it said it had restructured to better deliver on its priorities. Affected employees are on a 90-day notice period, and many of them used a company Slack channel to ask if they could move to another Amazon team before it ends. The cuts follow about 30,000 corporate job eliminations from late last year into early this year, even as Amazon prepares a record $220 billion budget for AI data centers and chips.
