X opened X Money to Premium and Premium+ subscribers across the U.S., widening a rollout that had been limited to a slice of Premium+ accounts, with rent payments, wire transfers, and peer-to-peer sends among the uses. Subscribers get a physical X Visa debit card that works in Apple Pay and pulls free ATM withdrawals anywhere in the world, plus cash back and the option to see direct deposits land early. X had targeted a launch by the end of 2024 once it secured its first money-transmitter licenses, then named Visa as its partner at the start of 2025. Musk has wanted an American WeChat since buying Twitter in 2022, and X Chat, a standalone encrypted messaging app tied to an X account login, launched in April. Paid subscribers make up roughly 0.21% of X’s user base, so the perks give the free majority a reason to start paying.
