Elvis Presley’s rights holders, among them a unit of licensing company Authentic Brands Group, sued Anthropic on Friday, accusing it of training Claude on the compositions and lyrics of 274 of his songs, such as “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “Don’t Be Cruel,” without asking or paying. The complaint says the guardrails Anthropic added after earlier lawsuits haven’t worked, citing a recent exchange in which Claude, asked to redo particular songs “for a modern audience,” produced near-copies and admitted it was reproducing them. The plaintiffs are seeking as much as $150,000 for each song, or about $41M in total. Their attorney, Richard Busch, also filed Round Hill’s lawsuit against Anthropic in August and Reservoir’s on Wednesday.
