Nvidia, Anthropic, and OpenAI each spent more on federal lobbying from July through September than in any previous quarter, with Nvidia at $2.2 million, Anthropic at $2.1 million, and OpenAI at $1.5 million, according to federal disclosures reviewed by Lauren Feiner at The Verge. OpenAI’s spending has climbed fast, since it never topped $1 million in a quarter before this year. Anthropic lobbied on AI provisions in the Kids Online Safety Act and on the Ratepayer Protection Act, which would make data center developers cover the energy costs they add, while OpenAI pressed on cybersecurity testing for frontier models and copyright. Apple also set a record at $3.1 million, its first quarter over $3 million, partly over bills that would make app stores verify users’ ages.
