Walmart’s Flipkart is accelerating its quick-commerce expansion in India, planning to add 500 more neighborhood warehouses with a focus on smaller cities as it competes in the country’s fast-growing $11B sector, according to Reuters. The push comes as Flipkart prepares for a Mumbai listing and works to close a gap against rivals, with its store count at 1,000 versus Blinkit’s 2,200-plus and Swiggy Instamart’s 1,100-plus, though it aims to reach 1,500 within months. Flipkart’s quick-commerce head Kunal Gupta said 70% of its 130-plus-city footprint comes from smaller towns, where value-conscious shoppers build larger baskets, helping lift its average order value to the highest in the segment at about $7.39. The company trails on volume at 820,000 daily orders against Blinkit’s 3 million and Swiggy’s 1.25 million, with one analyst doubting it can take share from Blinkit’s affluent, convenience-driven base.
