Walmart tests stocking third-party marketplace items in its stores so they can be picked up or delivered alongside grocery orders

Walmart is testing stocking third-party marketplace products in its stores so shoppers can get them through store pickup or delivery, often in the same order as their groceries, according to Mitchell Parton at Adweek. Marketplace sellers have only been able to ship from their own warehouses or Walmart’s fulfillment centers, which can take several days, whereas Walmart said store stock gets those items to customers in hours. The test is limited to a select group of eligible products, and Walmart hasn’t said which sellers qualify or which stores are taking part. The FT reported in April that it was testing back-room shelves at several Dallas stores for marketplace orders, and this week marketplace fulfillment SVP Kyle Carlyle presented it to advertisers at a Walmart Connect event in New York.
