Twitch and Amazon face a class action over training Amazon’s AI on streams that every channel was opted into by default

Twitch and its owner Amazon face a proposed class action from streamer Warren Pandiscia, who alleges in a Northern District of California filing that they copied millions of creators’ videos to train Amazon’s AI models without permission or payment. Twitch acknowledged the practice on August 12, adding a setting that lets a channel opt out and rewriting its terms of service the same day. Channels are enrolled unless someone turns the setting off, and because it applies per channel, a creator who opts out can still be captured on somebody else’s stream. Chief product officer Mike Minton defended the default that day, saying nobody would opt in if the company asked. Pandiscia alleges the scraping goes back to 2024 and brings claims including breach of contract and unjust enrichment.
