TikTok is steadily building toward super-app status, extending well beyond video into commerce, travel, sports, payments, and search, on the WeChat model of handling most of a user's digital life in one place, according to TechCrunch. Recent moves include TikTok GO, a US feature that lets users find and book hotels and attractions without leaving the app, a FIFA World Cup hub for scores and highlights, and a March bid to Brazil's central bank for licenses to offer prepaid accounts and lending. These build on TikTok Shop, the app's biggest move beyond social media, which eMarketer says grew US sales 108% in 2025 to $15.82B and took 18.2% of US social commerce. That push puts TikTok in more direct competition with Google's Search and Maps, since it now aims to be where users both discover places and buy the trip.
