Thrive Capital bought roughly $215M of Amazon stock, according to a regulatory filing that became public Friday. Josh Kushner’s firm is best known for early positions in SpaceX, Stripe, and OpenAI, which Amazon also backs, and its public holdings already run to Figma, StubHub, and Oscar Health, the insurer Kushner co-founded. Thrive put about $100M into Shopify earlier this year, telling its own shareholders that AI was pushing e-commerce along. Kushner used his first formal letter to limited partners this week to explain the strategy, writing that a sharper read on public markets improves the firm’s judgment in private ones because the startups it backs end up competing with, partnering with, or growing into the public technology companies of the next generation.
