Synchrony is working with OpenAI to make its store cards usable inside ChatGPT, though a full rollout could take a year or more

Synchrony plans to make its cards, rewards, and financing offers usable inside ChatGPT under a collaboration with OpenAI, so a shopper can finish the purchase without being sent elsewhere to pay, according to CNBC. General-purpose cards will take roughly six to 12 months, chief strategy and business development officer Maran Nalluswami said, and the private-label cards Synchrony issues for retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, and Lowe’s will take longer because each brand has to be signed up individually. Nobody has settled how the money from an in-chat purchase gets split between Synchrony, OpenAI, and the retailer. Synchrony is having the same conversations with Anthropic and Google about Claude and Gemini. Its ChatGPT plugin for browsing discounts and financing offers is already live.
