President Trump signed a voluntary accord with close to two dozen tech leaders after lunch at the White House on Tuesday that backs outside auditors checking the safety of AI systems, a turn for an administration that had viewed those evaluators with suspicion. Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, SpaceXAI’s Elon Musk, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, Alphabet’s Sundar Pichai, and OpenAI president Greg Brockman signed on, committing their companies to meet regularly on industry best practices and saying they “should” put four layers of controls in place for cybersecurity and other risks. The document has no legal force, though Trump called it “morally binding,” and it says it “may make sense” to write its recommendations into law down the road.
