OpenAI’s first device is a doughnut-shaped smart speaker roughly as big as a hockey puck, with moving parts meant to make it feel alive, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The device has no display, runs on a battery, and is built to be carried one-handed or set on a counter, with microphones, indicator lights, and a camera that feeds its surroundings into the model. OpenAI has discussed a price between $300 and $400, above most smart speakers and below an iPhone, for a product designed with Jony Ive’s LoveFrom studio in premium materials like metal. Apple’s suit alleges OpenAI asked a supplier it shares with Apple for a metal finishing technique similar to what Apple uses, though OpenAI says an internal probe after the filing found nothing of Apple’s in the device.
