OpenAI has gone nine months without a chief communications officer after Uber’s Jill Hazelbaker turned down the job this spring

OpenAI still hasn’t replaced chief communications officer Hannah Wong, who left in January, and its top choice for the job, Uber’s chief corporate affairs officer Jill Hazelbaker, turned it down this spring, according to Emily Forlini at Fortune. After its internal recruiters came up short, OpenAI brought in executive search firm Daversa Partners, and it told Fortune it won’t rush the hire until it finds the right person. In the meantime, OpenAI hired Josh King in July as VP of communications to run financial messaging and retained Brunswick Group for PR on its IPO, which CEO Sam Altman says won’t come before 2027. OpenAI is also still deciding whether the new hire should report to president Greg Brockman or to a chief marketing officer, a job that has been empty since April.
