OpenAI asks brands for $300,000 minimums and $40 CPMs to run ChatGPT ads alongside AI-generated images in a new pilot test

OpenAI is asking brands for $300,000 minimum commitments and $40 CPMs to run ChatGPT ads next to AI-generated images in a pilot starting this week, according to Garett Sloane at Ad Age. The ads target image-heavy requests like home design, fashion, and cooking, and OpenAI can match advertisers to the context of a request, so a parent making a logo for a kid’s sports team might see an ad for custom T-shirts. OpenAI is also pitching bigger images in text ads, a lifestyle carousel aimed at lead-gen and B2B advertisers, and display placements that stay on screen as users scroll. The minimum is higher than the $250,000 OpenAI asked for in its first pilot in February, but brands in that pilot had trouble spending their commitments because ChatGPT didn’t have enough inventory to fill them.
