Olo launches a consumer ordering app to rival DoorDash and Uber Eats, with in-store menu prices and a flat 5% customer fee

Olo launched a nationwide consumer app for restaurant pickup and delivery, letting people order from more than 250 brands, including Five Guys, Waffle House and Dave’s Hot Chicken, at the same prices they’d pay in the store. Olo doesn’t charge restaurants a commission, which DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub set at 15% to 30% of a delivery order and which many restaurants cover by raising their prices on those apps. Customers instead pay Olo a flat 5% fee, plus a delivery fee when a third-party courier brings the food. More than 800 restaurant companies already use Olo’s software to take orders on their own websites and apps, and Olo wants to eventually bring every one of them onto the new app, along with restaurants that aren’t customers.
